Ace of clubs, a registered charity, was founded in 1995 by the redemptorists - a religious order of the Roman Catholic church. For three years it was staffed by redemptorist priests and brothers from St mary's monastery Clapham, London. Although Christian in origin and ethos, the charity respects the beliefs and cultures of all its members and workers.
For over a hundred years poor and needy poeple called at the monastery door to receive food, clothing and pastoral assistance, In time it was recognised that something more than this was needed to meet the emerging needs of local people, and when church property became available, Ace of Clubs was established to meet those needs.
